On this day in 1990, we lost an amazing guitarist…Stevie Ray Vaughan. He was tragically killed in a helicopter crash shortly after a jam with Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and his brother Jimmie Vaughan at the Alpine Valley Music Center in East Troy, Wisconsin.

Now, I know SRV isn’t Metal. However, Metal is very deeply rooted in Blues. Without this genre there would be no Black Sabbath, no AC/DC, no Thin Lizzy, no Led Zeppelin, etc etc. Besides, any guitarist who doesn’t like SRV has their head so far up their ass that they could eat their own heart. Just listen to the guitar solo in Lamb Of God’s “Set to Fail” – it’s incredibly bluesy.

So let’s take a moment to honor this great legend….shall we?

R.I.P. Stevie Ray Vaughan
