France’s Hellfest is currently under fire by Kataklysm frontman Maurizio Iacono for using the original logo for the band Death. Those who are fans of Death should know that there has been a resurrection of sorts in the form of Death To All, a project paying tribute to the life and music of Death‘s founder Chuck Schuldiner. Never was it meant to be an official “comeback” for the band or anything like that. However, the advertising and marketing team for Hellfest thought it would be a good idea not to bill the performance as Death To All but simply as Death and using the well known logo for the band…and the backlash has already begun.
Here is what Kataklysm frontman Maurizio had to say on the subject:
“I am one to say what he thinks or I wouldn’t be who I am, no matter the consequences. I take full responsibility, I believe in integrity. Death being announced at Hellfest or any other show as Death and not DEATH TO ALL the tribute band is a travesty and an abomination. Chuck (Schuldiner) was a friend of mine and I know he wouldn’t approve. It’s wrong. Imagine advertising TYPE O NEGATIVE headlining festivals without Pete Steele. Advertise it as a tribute, not the real band. Someone is making money….”
